Education: A good start is critical
Like editors at the NY Times, or producers at CNN, educators have the power to decide which stories or topics get reported and what the emphasis will be. Unfortunately, this group of people often sees life through the lens of a liberal perspective at best…much further left at worst. It is understandable that over 90 percent of the media and educators are liberals, as documented in the book Bias by Bernard Goldberg, because they are indoctrinated throughout their education.
Through this liberal world view/lens, they shape and spin their reporting and educating with their “progressive” philosophy, affecting the next generations of children. Many times, they’re not even conscious of what they are doing. It’s brilliant, and I don’t think by accident. It seems to have really taken off during the late 1960’s with the rise of the baby boom generation. (Proud member of Generation X here….)
You can see this bias on display if you are aware. Watching the election results last night, just about every news outlet reported that the election result was not a mark against the President or his agenda. A very liberal state like New Jersey voting for a Conservative? How can that not be a mark against the President, especially if the President campaigned for the loser? The Conservative taking the RINO out of the election in New York 23 and then only losing to the liberal on his own turf by a slim margin? How can that not be a victory for Conservatives? But it wasn’t reported that way. Take a look at your children’s text books and see how much time is spent on the American Revolution and the Constitution. Then see how much time is spent on environmentalism. Read about the Vietnam War and how that is spun. Check out the story on Hiroshima and how that is portrayed. I invite you to read their text books and see how history is being re-written and presented to our kids. Highlight the spin and get them to challenge their teachers in a respectful way. Teach them to make their points based on facts.
We have to stand up to this. Our children are not getting enough of the basics of reading and math compared to our competition around the world. Not only are our kids not learning what they need to learn, we must resist this liberal brainwashing. First, we need to know what our kids are being exposed to and have discussions with them. Let them know there is another side to the stories they hear. Individual responsibility. Teach them to see the spin on the news. Tell them to respectfully challenge teachers that teach things as fact that are at best, theories. Man made global warming immediately comes to mind. Interesting theory, but not fact.
We need to improve our children’s education. Home schooling is great but that is just not possible for everyone. And there is a good argument for exposing the kids to different ideas and people. Private schools are great, which, by the way, the majority of your representative’s kids attend. If you can afford the cost, it’s great that you also have a choice about where your child goes to school. Private schools have to compete for your dollar and hire the best teachers they can find. Pay is competitive as well. Unfortunately, most of us have no choice but to send our kids to the public school without much choice, if any, about what the kids are taught and by whom. This is not satisfactory to me, and I hope it is not satisfactory to you either.
Therefore, I fully support school vouchers that enable you to choose which school your child attends. This gives any parent a more equal footing with the wealthier members of society. You can use your voucher towards your child’s education at the school of your choice. Make the schools compete for your education dollar. And just like a company that doesn’t provide what the consumers wants, let the weak links fail. Competition between schools will lead to innovation and excellence as it always does. Let’s get this done. Let’s take control of our kid’s education.
